Washington will send a written response to Russia on security guarantees this week

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that his country will send a written response to Russia's proposals for security guarantees this week, and will wait for Moscow's answer.

Speaking at a seminar broadcast on the State Department's website, Blinken added, "This week, US authorities will send their written responses to Russia's proposals for security guarantees, and after that they will wait for Moscow's response to them."

"I expect that sometime this week we will share our documents with Russia. And I expect NATO to do the same. Then we will see how Russia will react, and whether it sees a basis for continuing the dialogue and continues the path of diplomacy, which is certainly (for us) Preferred track.

It is noteworthy that the Russian Foreign Ministry published on December 17, two draft agreements that include security guarantees that Moscow expects from Washington and NATO.

Two agreements, one with the United States and the other with the Alliance, implicitly reject, among other things, the eastern expansion of NATO, including the refusal of Ukraine to join it, as well as restrictions on the deployment of dangerous offensive weapons, especially nuclear ones.

The US administration and its allies, in addition to the authorities in Kiev, accuse Russia of mobilizing large forces, numbering more than 100,000, near the border with Ukraine, "in preparation for launching a new invasion" of the Ukrainian lands, as they claim.

For its part, Russia has repeatedly denied its intention to launch any military operation against Ukraine, stressing that all reports that speak of this are false and the purpose of these allegations is to escalate tension in the region and inflame anti-Russian rhetoric in preparation for imposing new economic sanctions, and as a justification for NATO's expansion to the east, which Moscow strongly opposes it, saying it threatens Russian national security.
